Sydney Harbour Bridge (1/17)
When members of Australia's World Woldlife Fund (WWF) came up with the idea for Earth Hour in 2007 they hoped a few thousand people in Sydney would take part. When Sydney Harbour Bridge and surrounding buildings finally turned off the lights to raise awareness of the dangers of climate change, at least 2 million Australians joined in. (Photo: Reuters)

Energy consumption went down about 10.2 percent in the Central Business District (CBD) of Sydney, also saving emissions.
