There were times when there was no human being on the earth.Since about 100000 years humans have inhabited it.May be it takes another 100000 years for the earth to saturate with this species. But the manner in which man's activities have led to erosion of natural resources, and have caused pollution, it may not take more than 1000 years before a catastrophy of some magnitude destroys this species, the way mass extictions occurrd of other forms. Either this extinction is man-made or nature-made or both is a matter of speculation. But it is certain that nature will take its toll to rehabilitate other forms that do not pose danger to its bounty. Finally, it is the sun that will spell the doom by dimming, and twisting a bit.
