Where: Lisbon, Portugal

The third International Conference on Environmental, Industrial and Applied Microbiology will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from December 2 to 4. The three-day multi-disciplinary forum will present current science and discuss research of topics such as food, environmental, medical, and industrial microbiology.

7. December | United Nations Climate Change Conference

Where: Copenhagen, Denmark

From December 7 to 18, delegates from 192 countries, IGOs and NGOs will come together to find draft a global climate agreement to replace from 2012 after the Kyoto Protocol expires. The process leading to Copenhagen was launched in Bali in December 2007, when all Parties agreed on the Bali Action Plan. China and the U.S. will play a central role in the upcoming conference; but also mitigation and adaption, emission cuts of developed nations, and the role of developing countries will be crucial topics during the conference.

13. December | ECOCITY WORLD SUMMIT 2009

Where: Istanbul, Turkey

The 8th Ecocity World Summit 2009 will be held on December 13 to 15 in Istanbul, Turkey. Under the theme "Global Environmental Balances", scientists, politicians, and environment experts will address topics such as sustainable city design and architecture, natural resource management, and eco-policy. Speakers include Bozkurt Aran, Turkish Ambassador to the World Trade Organization, Mitchell Joachim, co-founder of Terreform ONE and professor at Columbia University, and Beng Lee Ong, Director of the Ministry of National Development of Singapore.
