World Ocean Day
Started by a handful of Aquariums in the U.S., the Ocean Project initiated World Ocean Day in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. World Ocean Day promotes the protection and conservation of our oceans and its species. Today, the Ocean Project helps its global network of zoos, aquariums, and museums to educate their visitors about the importance of the Earth’s Oceans and its species and coordinates events and activities on World Ocean Day.
