Carbon Expo 2008
The Carbon Expo, organised for the fourth time in succession by the World Bank, IETA (International Emissions Trading Association) and Koelnmesse GmbH acts as the international platform for companies operating on the global CO2 market.
Runing in Cologne, Germany from May 7-9, the trade fair will be held concurrently with a conference at which experts will provide information on the latest developments in the area of emission trading.

International Day of Families
The UN's decision to arrange an International Day of the Family was based on the recognition that families deserves to be celebrated, primarily because it concerns so many of us. It aims at fostering equality, bringing about a fuller sharing of domestic responsibilities and employment opportunities. In this spirit, the theme for the International Day of Families 2008 is "Fathers and Families: Responsibilities and Challenges".

9th UN Convention on Biological Diversity
The 9th UN Convention on Biological Diversity will take place in Bonn, Germany, from May 19 to 30. Some 5000 government representatives will debate about strategies to protect biodiversity. The Convention will focus on four major issues: biological resources, biodiversity protection, biological reserves, and forest protection.

International Day for Biological Diversity
Since 2001, the International Day for Biological Diversity promotes understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. Promoted by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, this year’s focus will be on the importance of sustainable agriculture to preserve biodiversity.

G8 2007 - Environment Ministers Meeting
From May 24 to 26, the G8 Environment Ministers will come together in Kobe, Japan. The meeting is held prior to the G8 Summit to support the discussion at the Summit on environmental issues. The outcome of the meeting is forwarded to the Summit for further discussion by the G8 leaders.

Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development
The fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) will take place in Yokohama, Japan, from May 28 to 30. Since 1993, Japan leads TICAD with other co-organizers from the UN, UNDP and the World Bank. The conference focuses on political and economic development in Africa and mobilizes knowledge and resources of the international community. This year’s focus will be on economic growth, human security, peace and climate change issues.

International Transport Forum
The 2008 International Transport Forum takes place from May 28 to 30 in Leipzig, Germany. The theme of this year's forum is "Transport and Energy: the Challenge of Climate Change". With keynote presentations by experts from industry and the political sphere, and through discussions and panel debates, participants will examine key areas like energy, transport, climate change and environment policies.
