The 2nd edition of this conference will in London will cover energy efficiency, energy management and energy performance, looking at a range of industrial and commercial sectors. The forum will examine the finance and investment issues around energy efficiency, and will identify the key issues and opportunities for both companies and investors.

1. December | United Nations Climate Change Conference

The Polish city of Poznań will host the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP14) until December 12. This will be the first meeting of all nations since the Bali summit in December 2007 and the last time they will come together before deciding a replacement for the Kyoto Protocol in Copenhagen in December, 2009.

The Poznań meeting provides the opportunity to draw together the advances made in 2008 and move from discussion to negotiation mode in 2009. Parties are expected to agree on a plan of action and programmes of work for the final year of negotiations as well as further implementing the provisions of the Kyoto Protocol, including capacity-building for developing countries, reducing emissions from deforestation (REDD), technology transfer and adaptation.

1. December | World AIDS Day

Since 1988, the world commemorates World AIDS Day on December 1 to increase awareness about HIV and AIDS. “Leadership”, the theme for the years 2007 and 2008, refers to promises leaders made to combat AIDS and to provide universal access to treatment, care, and prevention services by 2010, and implies the power and authority of leaders to make a difference.
